Brane World Cosmologies and Statistical Properties of Gravitational Lenses
نویسنده
چکیده
Brane world cosmologies seem to provide an alternative explanation for the present accelerated stage of the Universe with no need to invoke either a cosmological constant or an exotic quintessence component. In this paper we investigate statistical properties of gravitational lenses for some particular scenarios based on this large scale modification of gravity. We show that a large class of such models are compatible with the current lensing data for values of the matter density parameter Ωm ≤ 0.94 (1σ). If one fixes Ωm to be ≃ 0.3, as suggested by most of the dynamical estimates of the quantity of matter in the Universe, the predicted number of lensed quasars requires a slightly open universe with a crossover distance between the 4 and 5-dimensional gravities of the order of 1.76H o .

Decaying Λ cosmologies and statistical properties of gravitational lenses
In this paper we investigate the statistical properties of gravitational lenses for models in which a cosmological term decreases with time as Λ ∝ a −m , where a is the scale factor and m is a parameter (0 ≤ m < 3). We show that for given low values of the present matter density parameter Ω m0 , there is a wide range of values for m for which the lensing rate is significantly smaller than that ...
متن کاملParadox in the light of the Inflationary and Brane World Cosmologies
The Fermi Paradox is discussed in the light of the inflationary and brane world cosmologies. We conclude that some brane world cosmologies may be of relevance for the problem of civilizations spreading across our galaxy, strengthening the Fermi Paradox, but not the inflationary cosmologies, as has been proposed.
متن کاملConstant From Gravitational Lenses In An Evolutionary Model Of Galaxies
We study the effect of the cosmological constant on the statistical properties of gravitational lenses in flat cosmologies (Ω0 + λ0 = 1). It is shown that some of the lens observables are strongly affected by the cosmological constant, especially in a low–density universe, and its existence might be inferred by a statistical study of the lenses. In particular, the optical depth of the lens dist...
متن کاملCurvaton Dynamics in Brane-worlds
We study the curvaton dynamics in brane-world cosmologies. Assuming that the inflaton field survives without decay after the end of inflation, we apply the curvaton reheating mechanism to Randall-Sundrum and to its curvature corrections: GaussBonnet, induced gravity and combined Gauss-Bonnet and induced gravity cosmological models. In the case of chaotic inflation and requiring suppression of p...
متن کاملCosmological dynamics on the brane
In Randall-Sundrum-type brane-world cosmologies, the dynamical equations on the three-brane differ from the general relativity equations by terms that carry the effects of imbedding and of the free gravitational field in the fivedimensional bulk. Instead of starting from an ansatz for the metric, we derive the covariant nonlinear dynamical equations for the gravitational and matter fields on th...
